Curio Popup Shop

Showcasing Tomorrow’s Makers Today

The Goal

The team behind Curio Popup Shop sought to transform a university makerspace into a dynamic retail experience that shines a spotlight on student innovation. Their objective was to move beyond a static gallery and create an engaging, sales-driven environment where student designers could connect directly with customers, validate their concepts, and learn the fundamentals of product marketing. They needed an online platform that not only communicated the shop’s unique curation of student-made goods but also drove foot traffic to the physical popup in the WCCB Makerspace during its limited December run.

The Solution and Process

Visually Vogue partnered with the Curio organizers to craft a streamlined digital presence that mirrored the pop-up’s creative energy. We began by conducting stakeholder interviews with student vendors and faculty advisors to understand each maker’s story and product category. From there, we designed a mobile-first website featuring a bold hero banner announcing the event dates and hours, followed by rich “Featured Products” galleries with eye-catching photography and concise product narratives. Behind the scenes, we integrated a lightweight content-management system so organizers can add new student products, update availability, and highlight key pieces in real time. To boost on-site attendance, we implemented an automated email reminder system and Facebook Events integration, ensuring attendees received timely prompts and maps to the venue.

The Results

When the popup opened in early December, Curio saw a 75% increase in pre-registered attendees compared to the previous year, driven in part by the site’s “Shop All Products” call-to-action button that funneled visitors into email signup and social-share flows. During the four-day event, overall sales volume doubled, and more than 30% of visitors purchased multiple items—a testament to the compelling product storytelling online and in person. Post-event surveys revealed that 85% of attendees discovered Curio through digital channels, with 60% citing the website as their first introduction. By equipping student makers with a professional e-showroom and marketing toolkit, Visually Vogue helped Curio Popup Shop evolve into a highly anticipated annual showcase—one where tomorrow’s designers leave with both sales revenue and invaluable real-world retail experience.
